The reason we’re here
To offer our customers a shelf-stable source of protein that is less water-intensive than animal protein. We want to re-introduce people to beans in all of their variety and flavor profiles. Beans can be the star of a meal, nourishing our bodies and delighting our palates, while reducing our carbon and water footprints.
Our history
Rustic Outlook Farm is a small farm in Belchertown, MA. We do almost everything by hand, including harvesting and shelling. What this means for our customers is: fewer broken beans, less debris and an overall cleaner final product. As you prepare our beans, you’ll notice the difference in quality, which is created by the loving attention we can give each plant in our small-scale operation.
Since 2020, we have been growing dried bean varieties that are suited to our New England climate. Farmer Heather McCann created Rustic Outlook Farm to express her passion for sustainable food systems, which work within the ecosystem while providing access to regionally appropriate fresh produce.
Rustic Outlook Farm uses organic and regenerative farming techniques, and protects the soil from excessive deep tilling. The best produce comes from feeding the soil rather than the plants, so we take special care to keep the soil healthy, using only OMRI-approved amendments to improve the texture, organic matter and nutrient content of the soil. We think you’ll agree that this approach isn’t just ecologically responsible… it also produces some of the tastiest food you’ve ever eaten!
